statements

– Dr. Thekla Zell, 2021

“Anne Arndt’s installation and cross-media work critically question our public living space as a mirror of social (power) structures. They take an interdisciplinary approach and respond to site-specific conditions.” – Dr. Thekla Zell, 2021

– Michael Kohler, 2019

“Perhaps artistic talent can be recognised precisely by the fact that someone doesn’t make it easy for themselves with art and the world – and comes up with things that seem eerily self-evident.” – Michael Kohler, 2019

– Prof.in. Dr. Lilian Haberer, 2017

“Model-like and modular architectures, their political as well as representative functions in public space are the subject of Anne Arndt’s installations, photographs and video works. She focuses on the seriality and typology of hitherto little-noticed micro-architectures of high-rise bunkers for one person at a time, which the audience can comprehend performatively using miniature photographs and a model. The modular structure of so-called type school buildings as they were developed in the GDR from the 1960s and 1970s as an educational mandate of the SED and still function as a model for school construction today, occupied the artist in her exhibition Ideology manifests itself in space at CASE – Projektraum der Fotografie in the series Eight Assertions 2017. Using research-based material on the development of these buildings, interview transcripts with school headmasters, teaching boards and a construction kit for the performative reenactment of the modules, Arndt shows diverse approaches to a subject that have so far been little explored historically.” – Prof.in. Dr. Lilian Haberer, 2017
